Mrs. Shelly Prickel's Site
First of all, thanks for visiting my website. I'm Shelly Prickel and I feel privileged to have been teaching health and physical education at BMS for over 16 years. My husband, Rick, and my children, Austin, Drew, and Macy support me everyday with their love, understanding, and patience. My family is very important to me and helps to keep my life very busy. I grew up a Batesville Bulldog and have a great deal of pride in my school and community. GO DOGS! :)
In my classroom, I enjoy working with students and motivating them to achieve to their maximum potential. I encourage students to take responsibility for their health and future by promoting healthy choices and empowering them with refusal skills during this challenging time of adolescence. I also firmly believe in promoting an active lifestyle with my students. If young people engage in healthy habits now, they will more likely grow into healthy, happy, and productive adults. I sincerely welcome any contacts from parents because I feel a strong partnership between home and school is critical to student success! I am looking forward to a GREAT school year! :)
Course Descriptions:
The seventh grade health curriculum aligns with state standards emphasizing overall health and wellness, social health: relationships with family and friends, tobacco, safety, CPR, and non-infectious diseases. Students will practice refusal skills and be empowered to make good choices for their health. A unit on self-awareness will be presented in alternate years, so students will either receive this information as a seventh or eighth grader.
The seventh grade physical education curriculum promotes the importance of regular exercise and developing lifelong interest in physical activity. Improving/maintaining personal physical fitness is the primary goal. It includes flag football, volleyball, basketball, eclipseball, and softball. It is presented alternate years with the 8th grade units, gatorball, volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, eclipseball, tennis, and golf. Students will have the opportunity to roller skate in late January or early February. It requires a small fee of $7 per student and a parent permission form. Presidential physical fitness testing is administered in both the fall and spring of the year. Height, weight, body composition, and blood pressures are all assessed for each student throughout the school year. To enhance communication, the results of the physical fitness testing will be shared with parents.
